Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road? |
| Virginia’s poultry industry has six poultry processing companies: Cargill Turkey Products; George’s Foods; Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation; Perdue Farms; Tyson Foods; and Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative, Inc. |
| Virginia’s poultry processing companies employ more than 10,000 people. Every processing job creates 7.2 jobs outside the poultry industry. |
| There are more than 300 turkey farms and 880 chicken farms in Virginia supporting approximately 1,200 farm families. |
| Rockingham County is the nation’s second-largest turkey producing county. |

In the Market for Poultry |
| Per capita U.S. poultry meat consumption has risen from 34 pounds in 1960 to 100 pounds today. |
